Travel over time: a dive into the development of transport

By Dhruv Shah

On 22 December, 2021, Dhruv Shah, an eminent reporter, well-known in the transport realm, visited an exhibition called ‘Travel over the years’, held at the Sai Transport Museum, Ghatkopar, Mumbai. The artifacts were in chronological order, from the first vehicle ever made, horse-carriages, to modern-day modes of transport, like airplanes.

Dhruv, due to his prominent personality, was given the privilege of riding some of the ancient and modern vehicles. The ancient modes of transport, such as chariots, were rudimentary, made for the sole purpose of traveling, overlooking comfort. Modern vehicles, such as electric cars, covered all the travel criteria, from speed to luxury.

According to Dhruv, the most efficient and comfortable mode of transport was the airplane. The airplane saves time by being the fastest mode of transport while giving passengers the benefit of luxury, including plush seats, screens for entertainment, and a quiet, peaceful environment, perfect for relaxing.

The perceptive reporter concluded that travel, an essential, integral part of our lives, was developed and refined over time only to increase the productivity and speed while traveling; but nowadays, people want to travel while savouring the journey, hence necessitating the travel industry to branch out and create vehicles which give the utmost comfort to travellers too.

Before ending the exhibition, the host, Mr. Bhaskar, gave a laconic speech, “The constant need for better transport drives companies to make vehicles that revolutionize the industry. The potential of new vehicles in the transport industry is interminable.”
